SHILLONG, Dec 15: The Presbyterian Youth Today International Network has decided to rebuild the school at Domiasiat in South West Khasi Hills after witnessing that children in the village do not have access to education. The school will be named after anti-uranium activist, late Spility Lyngdoh Langrin, as ‘Spility Lyngdoh Langrin Memorial English School’.
Speaking to reporters, a member of the construction committee of the organisation, Powell Sohkhlet, said that the idea of setting up a school at Domiasiat, known for being rich in Uranium deposits, is to cater to the people’s educational needs. Chairman of Construction Committee of the organisation, Brembley Lyngdoh, informed that the school will be constructed at a cost of Rs 8 lakh and initially begin with Lower Primary section.
Lyngdoh said he met late Spility before her demise where she spoke to him about her yearning to have a school in Domiasiat.
He said that the school was closed down by the government in the 1980s.
