SHILLONG, Jan 2: Shillongites welcomed 2021 with open arms with the New Year’s eve missing out on the usual revels.
Unlike yesteryears, the number of people on the streets of Shillong was scant albeit the skyline was seen illuminated with firecrackers as soon as the clock struck 12.
There also were no entertainment programmes lined up for the celebration as many people chose to remain indoors on the chilly night.
Special services were held in churches across the city while many people welcomed the new year by cutting cakes and making merry with their near and dear ones in their respective homes.
A handful of tourists were also seen sightseeing places in the city on January 1.
The state capital usually experiences an abundance of tourists during the festive season. However, the situation was very much different this time, all thanks to the pandemic.
