SHILLONG, Jan 17: In a bid to strengthen and create additional livelihood opportunity for local farmers of Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi, an Aspirational District of Meghalaya, through utilisation of local bio-resources, the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (DBT-IBSD), Shillong, distributed lemongrass saplings to the local progressive farmers in order to help them effectively transform the district.
The distribution programme was held at the Rural Bioresorurce Complex (RBC) Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi, in the presence of Dr Samar Roychowdhury, Controller of Administration and Finance (CoAF), IBSD, and O Bishan Singh, Senior Account Officer, IBSD, along with the Scientific and technical support staff of IBSD Node, Meghalaya.
DBT-IBSD centres across the North East have actively participated and served the society during the situation which arose due to the COVID-19 pandemic, under the leadership of the IBSD Director, Prof Pulok K Mukherjee.
The Institute will continue such activities to enable local farmers recover the losses.
