SHILLONG, Feb 20: The internal rumblings between the state BJP leadership and party MLAs are now out in the open.
BJP MLA, Sanbor Shullai on Saturday slammed the party’s state unit president, Ernest Mawrie saying he was selected through manipulation.
“He (Mawrie) is a mere president, selected through manipulation. The state BJP is sinking each passing day under his leadership,” Shullai told reporters.
The statement comes a day after Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma of the National People’s Party claimed more than half the BJP leaders and the party’s two MLAs favour Mawrie’s ouster.
Shullai said he and others from the party have already lodged a verbal complaint against Mawrie with the party’s state in-charge M Chuba Ao and the latter “hinted” they should lodge a written complaint, so he can take up the matter with the party’s Central leadership.
“It is high time Mawrie is removed. It will help the BJP grow like before in the state,” Shullai said.
He said the statement made by Sangma on Mawrie was true. Defending the statement, Shullai said Sangma being the CM has every right to make a statement and give suggestions.
He said the BJP’s Central leadership has always directed the party’s two MLAs to support the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.
Shullai said the BJP had received a series of complaints against Mawrie. He said many leaders of the party from Jaintia Hills, Ri-Bhoi, West Khasi Hills, Shillong etc had left the party as they were not happy with Mawrie’s style of functioning.
