TURA, March 11: Various organisations on Thursday held a sit-in at William Point at Hawakhana in Tura against the non-tribal participation in forthcoming GHADC elections. The groups were earlier denied permission by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh to hold a sit-in outside his office in view of the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct across the district.
Prior to the sit-in at William Point, the groups, under the banner of All Garo Hills Joint Action Committee (AGHJAC) and the East Garo Hills Joint Action Committee (EGHJAC), organised a protest march through the main thoroughfares of the town.
They were seen shouting slogans while demanding that the party tickets allotted to non-tribals be revoked and the process of filing of nominations be stayed.
Meanwhile, the organisations have announced that they will hold another protest on Friday a poster campaign on Monday.
