NONGPOH, March 27: Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah on Saturday said that practices such as yoga ensure that one is hale and hearty and is devoid of diseases.
Kurbah was speaking at a yoga session, which was organised as part of Poshan Pakhwada 2021.
The session was organised by the office of the DC in collaboration with other line departments at Govt LP School Umdihar. A medicinal tree plantation drive was also organised later on the premises of Umdihar Anganwadi Centre.
Speaking at the session, the DC said the programme was held with an objective to educate people — particularly pregnant women, lactating mothers and children — on the importance of consuming nutritious food every day.
She also encouraged them to consume organic and seasonally available nutrition-rich fruits and vegetables.
During the programme, various events and activities such as distribution of over 2,000 saplings of nutrition-rich plants to 519 anganwadi centres in the district, creating awareness on malnutrition at the village level, raising awareness on use of AYUSH principles and practices to eradicate malnutrition, etc., were also held.
Others who attended the event include various health officials, self-help group members, locals and children from Umdihar village.
