A tingly sensation in changing winds
Shillong seems to be entering the summer season even as winds blowing in wintry fashion, especially during evening hours or when there is a short spell of rainfall, attempts to tell you otherwise, but surely warm days are around the corner.
Of late the mercury has risen and more and more people have already said their goodbyes to the many layers of attires from the chilly days. With sun shining bright during the day, major parts of the city were crowded and people were seen enjoying ice creams or cold drinks. Children were making the most out of their time at our very own, Phan Nonglait Park (aka, Lady Hydari Park); a number of revellers were out on two wheels to explore the outskirts and suburbs, while many chose to take the Sunday off at the convenience of their homes.
This annual change in season invokes many feelings in us Shillongites.
As we gear up for summer, sudden downpour always gets our goat, but what gives! We still love our majestic Shillong.
Sunday violations
Sundays in Shillong are known for outings with family and friends when people flock local tourist spots in hundreds. But, there is another aspect to this fun-filled day – traffic violations.
Sundays being a holiday for the entire state machinery — including that for the police department — a lot of people take full advantage of that fact.
With traffic detractors driving on the wrong side, over-speeding, riding without helmets, vehicles carrying passengers over legal limits, these “fundays” for some turn into nuisance for others.
Apparently, these traffic violators know all the possible routes where they might be stopped by the few policemen who still keep vigil on Sundays.
With all these potential hazardous drivers, the roads on Sundays are not that safe and fun-filled as one perceives them to be.
