TURA, Aug 8: Members of a school managing committee in the plain belt region have lodged a complaint with the education director against a school education officer who is alleged to have removed them and replaced with an ad hoc committee that included a former secretary dismissed over corruption charges.
Aggrieved members of the Namabila Higher Secondary School at Haripur have knocked on the doors of Ambrose C Marak, the director of school education and literacy in Shillong, demanding cancellation of the adhoc committee formed and given acknowledgement by the current lady officer in charge of District Education and School office, West Garo Hills.
In their complaint to the director, the members of the original managing committee questioned the grounds of their abrupt removal and replacement by an adhoc committee that included Golam Hassan, a former secretary earlier removed from the school committee over allegation charges.
“Our committee was constituted and accepted by the education department in 2018. It was due to complete in November 2021, but without any reason whatsoever, the DSEO in charge abruptly dismissed us and put in place an adhoc committee that includes a former secretary Golam Hassan who is accused of misappropriation and even a president Samiul Islam who is a serving teacher of another school called Shakmal SSA school,” points out the members of the managing committee who were removed.
They have demanded reinstatement and action against the DSEO.
In a separate letter to the DSEO, Namabila school president Jamial Hoque has sought answers for the termination of the school committee.
“Why were no reasons given for the change and no enquiry constituted if something had gone wrong. There was no hearing or intimation at all,” alleged the school president.
According to Hoque, the only statement mentioned by the DSEO for appointing the adhoc committee was that, “the position of the regular Managing Committee was not conducive to maintain the power and function normally.” He has accused the DSEO of removing a recognised school MC with her arbitrary decision which is also unconstitutional.
