SHILLONG, Aug 16: Following the claims made by Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui that he was unaware of the police raid at the house of late Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MLA, Adelbert Nongrum, has refused to accept the assertion of the Home Minister.
Former Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) general secretary, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, was killed in a police encounter during the wee hours of August 13.
“The Home Minister should have carried out his responsibility. But it is sad that the he (Rymbui) is trying to dramatise (the matter) by claiming that he was not aware,” Nongrum said.
It does not matter whether or not Rymbui’s request for relinquishing his ministerial role will be accepted or not, the KHNAM MLA said, adding,“…it is clearly reflected that he (Home Minister) was not serious on the job which has been assigned to him. He is responsible for the death of Thangkhiew”.
Nongrum, however, suggested that the Home department should be given to someone who is really serious about the safety of the people.
