SHILLONG, Aug 16: An FIR has been registered against a group of CRPF personnel for allegedly vandalising a vehicle (ML-05W-3140) and assaulting the driver Ferdison Mylliem Umlong at Mawlai Umthlong main junction.
Ferdison Mylliem Umlong is a driver working for Mawphor Group of Publications.
According to a statement, the incident reportedly happened late Sunday evening, when the victim was returning home along with his wife and mother-in-law after procuring medicines.
“Soon upon reaching the place of occurrence, the vehicle was stopped by the CRPF men who asked the driver to reverse the vehicle, to which he promptly obliged, but instead they got irritated for unknown reasons and started lashing out at the car from behind smashing the rear screen completely,” the statement said.
Following this, the wife and mother-in-law ran towards their home, it said.
Umlong was then asked to turn on the headlights, and when he again obeyed, the CRPF personnel allegedly shattered the glass piece of the car and also dented the metal parts, the statement added. It is also claimed that the incident was witnessed by scores of residents of the busy locality.
