House, two shops gutted in fire

TURA, Aug 17: A house and two shops were destroyed in a fire that broke out late Monday night in New Bhaitbari area of West Garo Hills.
The destroyed house and shops — a grocery and shoe store — belonged to Saha family of New Bhaitbari.
Household goods, gold and silver ornaments, important documents and savings, accumulating to Rs 30,000, have been destroyed in the fire. Meanwhile, a probe has been initiated to ascertain the cause of fire while short circuit has not been ruled out.
The loss of property, as per the affected families, amounts to around Rs 15 lakh.
