Food joint penalised over GST offence

SHILLONG, Sep 2: A takeaway business in the city has been penalised by the Taxation department for charging GST from customers on cash receipts without displaying the GSTIN on the same.
Field officers of the department had conducted inspection at the takeaway joint called City Panda Take Out after they were informed about the practice going on there.
Commissioner of Taxes Arunkumar Kembhavi, on Thursday, informed that show-cause notice was issued for this offence under relevant sections of the GST Act, which entails penalty of Rs 10,000.
“Show-cause notice was also issued for failure to display GST registration certificate in a prominent location of the business premises and failure to display GSTIN on signboard at entry of the business premises; both being offences under Rule 18(1) and 18(2) and each liable to general penalty of up toRs 25,000,” Kembhavi said.
The takeaway business has admitted to the charges and paid the penalty amount to the officials.
Kembhavi has warned that proceedings will be initiated against similar GST offences by other businesses that have come to the notice of the Taxation department.
