TURA, Sep 17: Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Benedic R Marak, on Friday, announced that the Council is planning to release salaries to employees that have been due for four months.
The money, amounting to several crores of rupees, will come from the royalty share being released by the state and revenue generation from the Council itself.
Marak, accompanied by Deputy CEM Nikman Ch Marak and chairman Rakesh A Sangma, called on Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in the latter’s office at State Secretariat in Shillong, shortly after conclusion of the Assembly session on Friday.
“We submitted a letter relating to issues concerning the GHADC, particularly funding and revenue generation. Share of council royalty from Transport and Forest which had lapsed are being obtained and we are planning to use it for the four months’ salary payment,” the CEM said.
While the Chief Executive Member was unable to give an exact figure of the royalty share being received, yet, along with revenue collection from council departments, he assured that the money would suffice in disbursement of four months dues.
Earlier, the Council had passed an order to clear only one month’s salary to its employees, which was vehemently protested by the employees.
