Mawrie inaugurates Nongpoh branch of learning institute
NONGPOH, Nov 17: State BJP president Ernest Mawrie, on Wednesday, inaugurated the Nongpoh branch of Regional Institute of Advanced Studies, an ISO-certified learning institute which is also registered with the Meghalaya government. The institute, set up by Skhemborlang Swett of Nongwar village in Shella, East Khasi Hills, aims to provide quality computer education to students. Also, Swett is currently teaching at St. Paul’s Upper Primary School in Nongpoh, besides being the director of the institute. Speaking on the occasion, BJP president Ernest Mawrie lauded the initiatives of Swett and expressed hope that the institute will help students in pursuing computer education. He pointed out that most institutes in Shillong, unlike Regional Institute of Advanced Studies, do not have ISO certification, due to which certificates of students who complete courses from such institutes are rejected and not recognised by employers or other institutions. Others who attended the programme include president and vice president of BJP Kisan Morcha, Ri Bhoi, Justice Syiem and Parlad Toor respectively, students of the institute and others.

Prog to observe Cooperative Week
NONGPOH, Nov 17: As part of the weeklong celebration of the 68th All India Cooperative Week, the office of the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Ri Bhoi, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank, Nongpoh Branch, organised a programme on the theme ‘Prosperity through Cooperation’ here on Wednesday. The topic of the day was ‘Role of cooperatives in fostering innovation, employment generation and bringing in professionalism’. VA Hynniewta, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi, was the chief guest of the occasion. The function was attended by members of cooperative societies drawn from all over the district. Hynniewta pointed out some of the active and successful societies in the district which can serve as examples to others to follow suit and stand on their own feet at this time when government jobs are saturated and to attract more talented youths into the cooperative sector with new ideas and innovation and to share and support among others. She urged the members to approach the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies for training on handling and maintaining their account for transparency and accountability among the office-bearers and the members of the societies.

TURA, Nov 17: The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner (Supply) has informed that rice for NFSA and non-NFSA beneficiaries under Tura Sadar Division and Rice under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) for November has been released. In this regard, all fair price shop dealers under Tura Sadar Division have been directed to issue rice as per government-prescribed scales.
