JOWAI, Nov 29: Elders of Elaka Nartiang and the Jaintia Students’ Movement (JSM) Mynsngat Unit have registered strong opposition to the new landfill site of Jowai Municipal Board situated within an area in Thadmusem village under Elaka Nartiang in West Jaintia Hills.
This resentment comes after the elders along with the acting Doloi of the Elaka, K Pale, and Elaka member Katbanbiang Lamare, JSM Mynsngat Unit president, P Suting, among others inspected the landfill site on Monday.
The inspection revealed that the landfill site has not been well constructed so as to ensure that wastes should not have any environmental impact on the area as well as the health of people residing nearby.
“The government has not even informed the Doloi, who is the chief of the Elaka, who will inform the general public”, said JSM president P Suting, while adding that the state government should first organise a public hearing so that every resident has the chance to share their views on the matter.
