Cleaning drives across city
SHILLONG, Dec 16: In the run-up to Christmas, Dorbar Shnong across the city have announced cleaning drives for their respective areas. The Dorbar Shnong Bishnupur-Kench’s Trace has announced cleaning drives for Bishnupur and Kench’s trace on Saturday from 7 am till 2 pm. Similarly, the Dorbar Shnong Laban will conduct a cleaning drive on Saturday in Laban from 8 am to 12 pm during which entry will be restricted. The Dorbar Shnong Mawprem too will conduct a cleaning drive on Saturday from 7 am onwards during which, shops/business establishments have been asked to remain closed. Similarly, the Dorbar Shnong of Mawlai Nongpdeng will also organise a cleaning drive on Saturday from 8 am onwards.

Man gets 7-yr imprisonment
JOWAI, Dec 16: The Court of District and Session Judge in East Jaintia Hills has convicted a man, identified as Long Pohshna, for raping a woman in September 2001. Accordingly, he has been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment by the Court.

Venue for sit-in changed
SHILLONG, Dec 16: The Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers Association (MUPSTA), central body, has changed the venue of its December 17 sit-in from All India Radio Shillong to Kynton U Mon Lad Nongkrem-Jowai Road. In this regard, the MUPSTA has requested all UP schoolteachers to attend the programme.
