Guwahati, Jan 14: The death toll in yesterday’s train accident in north Bengal has climbed to nine and 36 people are in hospitals as officials said no more passenger was trapped in the derailed coaches.

Six of the injured passengers are in a critical condition and have been shifted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri. The others are being treated at hospitals in Jalpaiguri and Maynaguri.

All survivors in the Express train travelling from Bikaner to Guwahati were brought out of the coaches by midnight, Guneet Kaur, Chief Public Relations Officer of the North East Frontier Railway, said. She added that the tracks are now being cleared and restored.
