Afghanistan’s tour of Zimbabwe postponed
HARARE, Jan 29: The Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Friday mutually postponed the white ball series that had been rescheduled to be played here in early February. Afghanistan’s limited-overs tour of Zimbabwe, which included three ODIs that are part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League and five T20Is – was originally planned for December but upon request from ACB, it was deferred to a later date. Zimbabwe Cricket cited its inability to secure “the required broadcast services” as the reason for the second postponement of the series. (IANS)
Dutch cricketer Ben Cooper retires from int’l cricket
AMSTERDAM, Jan 29: Netherlands batter Ben Cooper on Saturday announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 29. The left-hand batter has featured in 70 international matches for the Netherlands, since making his debut back in 2013 against Canada in an ODI match. “Today, I announce my retirement from international cricket,” Cooper posted on Twitter. Cooper who is the Netherlands’ top run-scorer for the country in the shortest format of the game has scored 1,239 runs from 58 T20I matches. In ODIs, Cooper featured in 13 matches and scored 187 runs. (ANI)
Glen Maxwell signs 4-year deal with Melbourne Stars
MELBOURNE, Jan 29: Australia star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has signed a new four-year deal with Big Bash League (BBL) club Melbourne Stars. Maxwell said he was thrilled to commit to the club long-term and was already looking forward to next season. The 33-year-old has been a marquee player in the BBL, having featured in every season of the competition since its inception in 2012-13. (ANI)
