TURA, Feb 6: Continuing their demand for the removal of the new CEM of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), a consortium of at least five civil bodies from Garo Hills region have announced night road blockade across the region from February 8-11.
The four-night road blockade will begin from 9 pm of February 8 and will end at 5 am every day until February 12.
The announcement is a part of the various civil disobedience movements carried out by organisations to seek the ouster of Rakesh Sangma as the GHADC CEM. They had begun their agitation through a two-day pen-down strike within the GHADC before another two days of non-cooperation between February 3 and 4.
Amidst the growing agitation, the GHADC, just after the appointment of the new CEM, had announced disbursement of four months of salary to its staff.
Various organisations, including the GSU, FKJGP, ADE, AYWO and NESO, have expressed their displeasure over the appointment of Rakesh A Sangma, who, they claimed, was illegally appointed to the post of the CEM.
They have been seeking his ouster ever since his elevation to the highest post within the GHADC.
Sangma is an MDC from the Babelapara constituency from NPP. He had defeated NCP MLA, Saleng Sangma, during the elections to the GHADC last year.
