Training prog for state police

SHILLONG, Feb 15: In an effort to train police officials in cases relating to cyber forensics, a one-day ‘Awareness Level Training Program on Cyber Forensics’ was organised for Meghalaya Police at SCRB Lab, Police Head Quarters, Shillong on Tuesday.
The programme which was conducted by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Kolkata in association with National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Shillong is being funded by the union Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY).
Brought under the project titled “Development of Cyber Forensics Training cum Investigation Labs in the North Eastern and cloud based centralised Cyber Forensics Lab Infrastructures”, the training programme is being implemented in all of the eight Northeastern states.
Under the project, a state of the art Cyber Forensics Training Facility cum Lab has been set up to train the police personnel and judiciaries of the state and also to assist the law enforcement agency to investigate and carry out forensics analysis of cyber-crime related cases taking place in the state.
Notably, the training programme is the first of a series of offline trainings meant for the various stake-holders of criminal justice system of the state government like police officers, prosecutors and judiciary.
The training was attended by a total of 23 Meghalaya Police personnel from various districts of the state.
In his welcome speech, Associate Director, CDAC Kolkata & Chief Investigator of the project, Asok Bandyopadhyay talked about the importance of the project in tackling the cases of cyber crime in the state while
SP(CID), Supriya Das stressed on the various intricacies concerning digital forensics and the need for Police officials to skill themselve in the ever emerging field.
Under the project, which has commenced since March 2020 and is set to continue for a period of 5 years in Awareness Level, Beginner Level and Advanced Level training and also Judiciary Level, beneficiaries shall be trained and skilled up under the joint efforts of NIELIT Shillong and CDAC Kolkata to empower the Law Enforcement Agency & judiciaries of the state to combat cyber-crime.
