1st Div Cricket: Sputnik to face Sporting CC in final

SHILLONG, March 13: Sputnik Spartans notched up a narrow 13-run victory over Sunrise XI to reach the final of the Shillong Cricket Association First Division league, here on Sunday. Earlier, Sunrise XI won the toss and decided to field first, restricting Sputnik to 203/6 in the stipulated 35 overs. Prashant (59) and Supriya (51) both scored half centuries while Joydeep’s figures of 2/27 from 7 overs topped Sunrise XIs bowling list. Sunrise XI looked on course to achieving victory as they were 123/3 by the 23rd over. However, wickets began to fall at regular intervals and they were eventually dismissed for 190 in 31.1 overs. Donlang top-scored with 32 while Arbind contributed 31 runs. Most of the damage was caused by Player-of-the-Match Aravind who took 5/32 in 6.1 overs. Sputnik Spartans and Sporting CC, both having qualified for next season’s Super Division, will meet in the First Division final on March 15.
