SHILLONG, May 1: The National People’s Party (NPP), which is leading the MDA coalition, on Sunday slammed senior BJP leader and MLA, AL Hek for his statement on the interstate border MoU, saying that Hek’s statement conveys that he is against his own leaders since the MoU was inked in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and was hailed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Hek had stated that his party did not sign up for unrest and trouble but for finding an amicable solution to the vexed border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya.
“The MoU was signed by the two chief ministers of Meghalaya and Assam in the presence of the Union Home Minister and even the Prime Minister had hailed this development. This means that Bah Hek is against his leaders,” observed NPP state president WR Kharlukhi.
The NPP state chief asserted that they will go ahead with the resolution of the border dispute and the 36 lakh citizens of Meghalaya will play judge and give their verdict in 2023.
“We have been telling the people that we are going for a resolution of the dispute and if they agree they will vote for us. Everyone complained and no one did it. We dared to solve it or should we have waited another 100 years,” he questioned.
On political leaders criticizing the government on the MoU, Kharlukhi said those were mere rhetoric to hide their own incompetence as this government has done what they couldn’t for 50 years.
