SHILLONG, May 17: Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has said that the state would always want the Director General of Police to be from Meghalaya but due to the existence of the Assam-Meghalaya joint cadre, the state government’s hands are tied. “We as a state we always want to have a DGP from our state but being a join cadre our hands are tied and we have to follow the rule of the law,” said Rymbui.
However, the Home Minister heaped praise on Special DGP, Idashisha Nongrang.
“For the past four and a half months, she has shown she can run the state police department and oversee its functioning to the best of her ability and the result is on the ground. I express my gratitude for efficiently discharging her duty,” Rymbui said.
“I do not question the efficiency or the capability of other officers. We had to choose we choose LR Bishnoi,” he said, adding that all three are equal in the eye of the government.
On reports of lobbying being done for the post of the DGP, he said, “For me, there is no truth in that and the government has appointed the person to the best of its judgment.”
