SHILLONG, May 24: In view of the several incidents of landslides in many parts of the state recently, the FKJGP Riwar Mihngi Circle has asked the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to finds measures to initiate immediate action on frequent landslides along the Shillong-Dawki Road (NH-40).
In a letter to the NHIDCL manager on Monday, the FKJGP pointed out that the regular users of the said road face troubles when natural calamities strike, adding that widening of the NH-40 is under way.
Suggesting measures to tackle such situations, the group said, “During recovery of landslide, workers should use big stones to protect people from massive and minor landslide. Excavator should be present at any landslide-prone area to clean up the road immediately so that people do not have to face delay in travelling.”
