SHILLONG, July 12: One of the accused in the Ichamati assault case filed an FIR with East Khasi Hills Police on Tuesday alleging that he along with three others were assaulted at Mawlong by masked miscreants while they were returning to Ichamati from Shillong after a hearing in the Sessions Court on Saturday.
The FIR filed by Birendra Debnath said they were attacked at around 2 am on July 9 by 10-12 unknown persons when they were travelling in a vehicle.
The FIR stated that in the incident, he along with his younger brother and two other occupants, who are also accused in the case dating back to February 2020, were attacked. Stating that they were previously provided with security while attending the court trials, the FIR urged the East Khasi Hills superintendent of police to reinstate their security as they having been living in fear after their security was removed.
The FIR also stated that they had delayed filing the FIR since they had been threatened by the unknown assaulters not to disclose the incident to the police.
