Curtain comes down on Power @2047 celebrations

SHILLONG/TURA, July 30: The nationwide celebrations of ‘Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047’ concluded on Saturday in Meghalaya as well as other states and union territories, after scores programmes to disseminate awareness on government initiatives as well as showcase of achievements in power and renewable energy sectors were conducted for a week.
A concluding event of Power @2047 was held in Shillong on Saturday, which was attended by PHE Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar as the chief guest and Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) CMD DP Wahlang as the guest of honour, Principal Secretary of Power department Dr Shakeel P Ahammed, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo, among others.
Tongkhar, in his address, lauded the initiatives and schemes, initiated by the central and state governments, to ensure electrification of every household.
Informing that the government is working to address all the challenges the Power department is faced with, he said the state government, through the Power department, has sanctioned more than 300 new transformers to replace all faulty and damaged transformers at village level.
A similar programme was organised in Tura by the Ministry of Power in association with West Garo Hills District Administration, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited, West Garo Hills, Tura.
Adviser to the Chief Minister and MLA North Tura Thomas A Sangma, who was the chief guest during the programme, congratulated the officials and staff of the concerned department for implementing various schemes of the government and ensuring electrification in the region despite challenges galore.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe, on the other hand, called upon one and all to come forward and harness energy with the help of solar rooftops, and advised the department officials to expedite the implementation of schemes in the area.
Beneficiaries from Chandigre, Tosekgre, Darechikgre, Buripara etc, also shared their experiences during the programme.
Others who were part of the programme include officials from PowerGrid, PGCIL and MePDCL, and beneficiaries from Garo Hills region.
It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual address was also aired during the programmes in Shillong and Tura.
