Prog in EWKH remembers U Tirot Sing

NONGSTOIN, Aug 29: As part of the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, a programme was organised by the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Arts and Culture department to remember legendary Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem at Khasi Patriotic Home, Nongkhlaw, in Eastern West Khasi Hills, on Monday evening.
Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh was the chief guest in the attendance of Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw Pa’iem PM Syiemlieh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Eastern West Khasi Hills, A Nongbri, district police chief MB Syiem, Deputy Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw KM Syiemlieh, Headman of Nongkhlaw Clement Dkhar, representatives of the Syiemlieh clan, and students and locals of the area.
In his address, the Speaker exhorted citizens to draw inspiration from the teachings exhibited by the life of U Tirot Sing Syiem who fought valiantly against the British to preserve the culture and identity of the Khasi Hills of the state.
The programme featured cultural songs, dances and a skit presented by different artistes of the district and Shillong.
