SHILLONG, Sep 14: The state government has filed a report indicating in “great detail” the measures to be implemented to deal with the day-to-day piling of garbage not only in Jowai (West Jaintia Hills) but also in nearby Khliehriat (East Jaintia Hills). The details pertaining to the time-frame for setting up a compost plant have been set out, the court said in its order on Wednesday.
A proposal has been finalised for the construction of solid waste processing and disposal plant of 10 tonne per day (TPD) at Khliehriat at an estimated cost of Rs 13.37 crore and such plant is to cater to the needs of both Jowai and Khliehriat, it said.
According to the government’s report, the expression of interest has been issued and the process should be completed by the beginning of October 2022.
A 15-day time-frame has been indicated for evaluation of the bid documents and a further 15-day period for submission of security deposit and execution of the agreement.
“By the end of the first week of November, if the state’s latest report is to be given credence, the initial steps for setting up the solid waste processing and disposal plant should have been completed,” the court said.
The report also claims that the plant would be set up within 12 months.
The matter will be taken by the High Court in the second week of November to ascertain whether the initial steps have been taken and the work for setting up the plant awarded.
As per the report, the plant should be ready by the end of November, 2023.
