SHILLONG, Oct 8: Broken but determined, the State Congress is banking on public support to defeat the “money power” of its opponents to regain its lost pride and make a comeback to power in 2023.
“I am very confident that we will spring a surprise as the public is with us. But they (other political parties) have money and whether they can buy the public or not is what we will have to see,” Lok Sabha member and State Congress president Vincent H Pala said on Saturday.
On his plan to contest from the Sutnga-Saipung constituency against former party colleague turned Trinamool Congress MLA Shitlang Pale and the strategies in place, he said, “I am planning something and my opponent is planning something else. God only whose plan will work. It is too early to say anything.”
He urged the public to ensure that money power does not play any role in the upcoming elections and called upon the party supporters to strengthen the party in all the constituencies.
Congress working president PN Syiem had on Friday confirmed that Pala is planning to contest from Sutnga-Saipung constituency.
Ever since Pala’s appointment as the MPCC chief in 2021, followed by the exodus of several Congress MLAs and senior leaders to other parties, there have been speculations that he may make an entry into state politics.
Pala is considered a force to reckon with in politics and whether or not the Congress will regain its lost supremacy under his leadership in the state against all odds is something that will unravel only during counting of votes for the 2023 Assembly polls.
