SHILLONG, Oct 25: The KHNAM State Youth Wing (KHNAM-SYW) on Tuesday moved Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for discontinuation of interview for recruitment to various posts under Group B, C & D.
In a petition to the chief minister, KHNAM-SYW president Thomas Passah said that personal interview often encourages nepotism and has been a safe channel for people in power to manipulate names of selected candidates.
He further observed that abolition of interview for recruitment to various state government posts will also ensure heavy savings on the state exchequer as days-long interview process can result in substantial expenditure.
Stating that the Centre has abolished conduct of interviews for recruitment to Group B, C & D posts, Passah said that some states, including Gujarat, Manipur, Punjab, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Kerala, Sikkim, et al, have also followed in the central government’s footsteps.
“While the whole country is doing away with interviews, it seems our state is doing exactly the opposite by holding only interviews for selection of candidates for various posts. This has been observed on several advertisements called by the government departments/semi-government departments,” Passah said.
Maintaining that youths have lost hope in getting government jobs, not because they are incompetent but because of the system, Passah said that the youths are of the belief that “if there is no connection with politicians and high-profile individual, it is almost impossible to get a government job.”
He alleged that there had been complaints, grievances and allegations by many aspirants and citizens from time to time about interview marks being manipulated to help certain favoured candidates.
Stating that written test be made the only criterion for selection of successful candidates, the KHNAM-SYW president said, “We would strongly urge the government to immediately do away with interview for recruitment for lower level posts in order to eliminate the scope of allegations of nepotism or corruption in appointments to government jobs, and to bring about a reforms and transparency in recruitment.”
