NONGPOH, Nov 3: With widespread apprehensions over reports doing rounds on social media about practice of witchcraft in Ri-Bhoi, police on Thursday debunked the rumours and warned legal action against people disseminating disinformation.
It may be mentioned that reports, which were doing rounds on social media, had claimed that a group of persons, involved in witchcraft, were allegedly stealing organs of people and children in the district. The reports were too quick to trigger apprehensions among the general public.
However, Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad, in a statement on Thursday, allayed apprehensions of the general public, stating that no incident, as claimed by the rumormongers, has been reported in the district so far.
The SP’s statement came after the reports were verified by the police.
Meanwhile, urging the public to not pay heed to disinformation, the SP warned legal action against the people involved in circulating rumours.
