SHILLONG, Nov 29: A day after miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a house in Mawbah, local MLA Mohendro Rapsang said the incident may be an attempt to take advantage of the prevailing situation and to create a fear psychosis in the constituency.
However, he condemned the incident while also maintaining that people are no longer scared of such unscrupulous attempts.
Police have been alerted and patrolling is conducted in the area, the MLA said while exuding confidence incidents like the one from Monday will not happen in future.
It may be noted that investigation into the incident has begun and police have also scanned the CCTV footages to nab the culprits.
Asked to comment on demand for deployment of army personnel by State BJP president Ernest Mawrie, Rapsang said the army is deployed when there is war. “There is so much of police (presence). Why do we need the army?” he said.
Monday evening’s attack in Mawbha was caught on camera.
And as per CCTV footages, two youths entered the locality and lobbed the petrol bomb at the residence of Paritosh Das in Bengali Para, Mawbah.
However, the bomb hit a tree on the premises and ignited a fire which was doused by the residents and neighbours. There was no damage to the house.
