SHILLONG, Dec 10: NPP national vice-president and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong is not taking the battle for his constituency in the 2023 Assembly elections lightly.
“All of them are very strong,” Tynsong said, referring to his rivals for the Pynursla constituency.
The decision of former Commerce and Industries director, Nehru Suting to contest the Pynursla seat on a Congress ticket is believed to have made the NPP uneasy. Suting, who had contested on a UDP ticket in the 2018 Assembly polls, lost to Tynsong by a margin of 2,574 votes. He is expected to pose a challenge to Tynsong. Asked about his preparation and assessment, he said: “I will be able to tell you on the day of counting.”
Among the candidates confirmed as Tynsong’s rivals from Pynursla are noted Khasi singer Anthony Kongwang of the UDP and Voice of the People Party’s Manbha Thabah.
Former MLA Donkupar Massar is likely to contest as an independent.
