KHADC to hold election for Syiem of Hima Mylliem

SHILLONG, Jan 11: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has decided to conduct the election for a full-fledged Syiem of Hima Mylliem as per the provisions under the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Appointment and Succession of Syiem, Deputy Syiem, Electors and Rangbah Shnong of Mylliem Syiemship) Act, 2007.
In the notification on Wednesday, the Returning Officer (RO) of the election informed that all eligible candidates can file their nomination papers along with a security deposit of Rs 2,500 at the office of the Council on or before 12 noon of January 16.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on January 16.
At the same time, the KHADC has also finalised a total of 43 electorates which include the Myntris, Lyngdohs and Basans for the election of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem.
It may be mentioned that the Hima Mylliem has remained without a full-fledged Syiem since 2016.
Currently, Ainam Manik Syiem is the Acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem.
