Villagers take to streets in WKH village

NONGSTOIN, Feb 21: The residence of Riangpoit village and its neighboring villages on Tuesday took out a rally to protest and condemn the purported rape and murder of a 38-year-old woman in Riangpoit Thymmai, West Khasi Hills.
Mitelda L Marshillong (38), a resident of Riangpoit Thymmai was allegedly raped and murdered while she was on the way to her work on February 14.
Schoolchildren and their parents as well as members of different NGOs attended the public meeting carrying placards while shouting slogans to condemn the deed and demand justice for the victim.
The protesters called for stern action against the criminal(s) while highlighting that the heinous act has instilled a sense of fear among the locals of the area.
Speakers at the meeting urged the residents to be united and strengthen the authority of the Dorbar Shnong to mitigate crimes in the area.
