Shillong, March 10: At least 279 old coins along with silver ornaments were found during construction of a house in Uttar Pradesh. The coins date back to 1862.
These coins and ornaments were recovered during digging in Vyas Pura village of Kotwali Jalaun in Uttar Pradesh. These have been handed over to Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for further investigation.
Deputy District Magistrate of Orai, Rajesh Singh, said that a person identified as Kamlesh Kushwaha was allotted a land under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna and during the digging the ornaments and coins were found from the area. A metal container with coins and ornaments was discovered by the workers which was reported to the authorities.
Rajesh Singh called archaeological officials to the spot and handed over the ornaments and coins to them.
