SHILLONG, March 26: Guwahati-Shillong highway is one of the busiest and most important routes of the state. While the major part of the road maintained by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is well maintained, the short stretch from Mawiong to Umiam however continues to be in a pitiable condition.
It was just few months back in November-December when repair job although temporary were done on this stretch but it has now come undone.
It may be mentioned that the High Court of Meghalaya few years ago had also taken note of the poor road condition on this stretch.
This route is important as it connects to the state capital and majority of the tourists come to Shillong using this road.
Meanwhile towards Assam, the Umiam-Jorabat Expressway is in a tip-top condition. However, few of the road blinkers are defunct and could pose problems to travellers, especially at night. Besides, it also needs to illuminated properly.
