SHILLONG, April 13: Taking umbrage at the rampant illegal mining and transportation of coal in the state, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Thursday requested the High Court of Meghalaya to pass an order, if possible, to deduct the amount required to pay the CISF from the salaries of the ministers, MLAs, police officers, and departmental officers concerned for failing to perform their duty.
“We request the court, if the law allows, to pass such an order so that the people do not end up bearing the burden of salaries to the CISF and police personnel,” Kharjahrin said.
The Chief Minister, ministers and the government should be made answerable for the goings-on, he said.
On the government’s claim that there is no illegal coal mining and transportation in the state, Kharjahrin said: “When it comes to illegal mining and the transportation of coal or any other mineral, the high court and the people have no faith in this government.”
He added that from Shallang and Nongstoin to Mairang, and Shillong and Ri- Bhoi to Byrnihat, no one believes there is no illegal transportation of coal.
“The government of Meghalaya should take action to earn the belief of the court and the ordinary citizens,” Kharjahrin said.
“If they say there is no illegal transportation and illegal mining, let them bring in the CBI and give them a free hand and then we will see,” he added.
