Shillong, April 17: In an exciting Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket encounter between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, three players received fines or lost match costs. Mumbai spinner Hrithik Shokeen, KKR captain Nitish Rana, and MI skipper Suryakumar Yadav were fined by the match referee.
In absence of Rohit Sharma, stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav failed to manage the overs and committed over-rate offences, for which he was penalised Rs 12 lakh by the match referee.
Nitish Rana, the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, was fined 25% of his match money for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the first innings of the match when he got into an altercation with Hrithik Shokeen. It is believed that the IPL incident was a blow up from Rana and Shokeen’s time playing for Delhi in the Indian domestic circuit.
In the ninth over of the match, when the bowler removed the KKR skipper and gave him a send-off, Shokeen and Rana got into an argument. Before the two were dragged away by the MI players who were there on the pitch, Rana reacted angrily to the gesture.
Rana acknowledged the Level 1 Offence under IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.21. Hrithik Shokeen, a bowler with the Mumbai Indians, was also fined 10% after acknowledging the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma got the game off to a quick start for Mumbai Indians, who went on to win with five wickets in hand. In the 186-run chase, Mumbai maintained composure and completed their goal with 14 balls still to play.
