HYC wants more Khasi-Jaintia professors to be hired by NEHU
SHILLONG, April 30: The HYC central body has petitioned Vice Chancellor of NEHU Prof PS Shukla pitching that qualified members of the Khasi-Jaintia community be recruited as professors in the university. The HYC said that there are a significant number of highly qualified teachers for the posts of professors and assistant professors from the Khasi-Jaintia community. It sought preference for the Khasi-Jaintia candidates during recruitment.
School teacher in WJH village irregular for a decade
JOWAI, April 30: A school teacher from Larnai Government LP School has been irregular for the past 10 years. KSU West Jaintia Hills along with members of the KSU Larnai Unit inspected the school recently and discovered that the teacher, Wikiru Shylla, has not been regular for a decade. The KSU took up the matter following complaints from the residents of Larnai village. The KSU, on Sunday, urged the Education department to take necessary action to ensure that students are not affected because of the errant teacher.
Tura MDC launches ‘Jawilwat’, platform for young filmmakers
TURA, April 30: In an effort to give a platform to upcoming young talented producers from Garo Hills, who have keen interest in making movies, a mobile film making competition, ‘Jawilwat’ has been launched by Tura MDC Bernard N Marak. “Anybody can participate in this competition by registering their names in this number (9774584466). The movies can be shot by a mobile phone with good resolution and no hi tech equipments are required as it is solely intended to promote young talents and expand the scope of local movie making,” the Tura MDC said in a statement, while informing of the launch. The last date of registration has been fixed as May 10 next. The competition comes with a cash amount of Rs 1 lakh (1st prize), Rs 60,000 (2nd prize) and Rs 40,000 (3rd prize) besides other consolation prizes.
Symposium on career guidance for students in Nongstoin
NONGSTOIN, April 30: Aiming to guide students, a one-day career symposium was organised for school and college students at Mawkhlam-Nongpyndeng Dorbar Hall here on Saturday by Nongpyndeng Sport Social & Cultural Club. The programme was supported by YESS Meghalaya, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs. A large number of schoolchildren and college-goers from Nongstoin area attended the symposium. Manuel Badwar, IIM, Goldenstar Nonglong, IIM, and K Mary Wahlang, NIT, were the professional counselors. The programme was designed to help students in schools and colleges through counselling and interactive sessions to meet theirgoals and to choose the right career.
