SHILLONG, May 16: The state government, which is facing a tough time over the demand for keeping on hold the roster reservation system pending a review of the job quota policy, has prepared a detailed presentation on the implementation of the roster system which will be tabled before the Cabinet on Wednesday.
Disclosing this development, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday said the details will first be presented before the Cabinet on Wednesday evening and also during the meeting of the MDA partners on Thursday.
“We will then give a presentation during the all-party meeting to be held on May 19 (Friday),” the chief minister said.
Stating that he has already seen the initial presentation, Sangma exuded confidence that the presentation will clear all doubts about the roster system.
The CM further said that the government is planning to bring church leaders, civil societies, pressure groups and Rangbah Shnongs on board for implementation of the roster system.
“We are planning to have a meeting with civil society groups next week,” he said, explaining the intention of the state government to reach out to everyone and share what the roster system exactly means.
The CM pointed out that there is opposition to the roster system since the main problem is that most people do not understand what a roster is since it is a complicated matter.
“I am certain that everyone will have a better understanding of the roster system and most of them will be satisfied after seeing the presentation,” Sangma said.
Asked about the demand of the VPP that the state government should come up with a notification to put a stop on all recruitment processes in the state, the CM said political parties can say what they want but the government has to follow procedures.
Meanwhile, the VPP welcomed the CM’s announcement of an all-party meeting on Friday but made it amply clear that it would not budge from its stand.
VPP president Ardent Basaiawmoit said the party is determined to hold the sit-in demonstration from 10 am to 4 pm on Wednesday.
“We welcome the step taken by the government to convene an all-party meeting; however we want the government to put on hold all recruitment processes pending the review of the reservation policy,” Basaiawmoit said.
“We are going ahead with the sit-in because the second letter that we had submitted to the government is about the demand for keeping on hold all recruitment processes in the state,” he added.
