‘Govt making all-out efforts to improve education scenario’

TURA, June 21: Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Wednesday assured that his department is trying hard to bring change and improve the overall education scenario in the region under the leadership of the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
The education minister was addressing a felicitation programme for the toppers of Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination 2023 at the District Auditorium in Tura.
In his address, Rakkam sought the support of the teachers to work together towards better performance of students.
Expressing his gratitude to the students and teachers for making the region proud, he urged the students to double their efforts.
The education minister also advised the students to be serious in their work and contribute towards the growth and prosperity of the state in particular and the country in general.
Adviser to the Education department, Himalaya Shangpliang, who also was part of the programme, said that while some schools in Garo Hills had performed even better than the ones in the state capital, there also were a few schools from the region that exhibited poor performance, which, he continued, calls for evaluation and assessment.
Admitting to various constraints and challenges faced by the teachers in the region, he stressed on the need to bring major reforms in the state’s education sector.
The students who were felicitated during the programme were Samridhya Das, Ritam Deep Choudhary, Salrime M Sangma, Ronggrik B Sangma, Sanskrita Karmakar, Pallavi Penang, Riktean M Marak, Shelim Islam, Joyrani Das and Raqib Raonaq Abtahee.
Others who were part of the programme include Chairman, Meghalaya New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (MNREDA), Rupert Momin; Commissioner and Secretary, Education Department, Pravin Bakshi; Director School Education and Literacy, Swapnil Tembe; deputy commissioners of all five districts of Garo Hills, et al.
