Shillong, June 2: A bridge collapse in Montana, United States, resulted in at least seven freight train cars plunging into the Yellowstone River. The incident caused spilled cargo, including asphalt and molten sulfur, to enter the water.
According to the Disaster and Emergency Services Department of Stillwater County, the train cars, operated by Montana Rail Link, derailed on Saturday at around 6:45 a.m. local time while traveling west.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as stated by Andy Garland, a spokesman for Montana Rail Link. Garland mentioned that two cars contained sodium hydro sulfate, but neither had leaked into the water or been compromised, as reported by the New York Times.
Among the derailed cars, three were carrying hot asphalt, while four contained molten sulfur, both described as “slow-moving” substances.
Officials reassured that there were no anticipated hazardous materials consequences for the towns in the county.
