NONGPOH, July 7: In response to the grievances expressed by residents of villages nestled in the border areas who consistently face difficulties in obtaining police assistance, members of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) met with Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police, Giri Prasad on Friday.
Led by Edward Thangkhiew, assistant secretary of the HNYF central body, the delegation lodged a complaint and sought the assistance of the police chief in addressing the grievances of the villagers.
Following the meeting, Thangkhiew said the organisation had received numerous complaints from residents of Khlieh Umwang, Umlaper, and Sabuda in Raid Nongtung under Block II that they have been facing difficulties in receiving police assistance as the FIRs filed by them were not registered and their complaints were not addressed.
Thangkhiew further mentioned that the organisation had also received complaints that when residents of border villages visit police outposts to file their complaints, they find no police personnel or sometimes only single personnel present resulting in their FIRs not being registered. Additionally, the organisation has demanded that the state government should bolster the manpower in border police stations and outposts.
