LONDON, July 12:Tottenham Hotspur’s Ryan Sessegnon has undergone surgery on his left hamstring following an injury he sustained in pre-season training, the Premier League club said on Tuesday.Having previously suffered with his hamstring it is anticipated that the surgery following this injury will provide a permanent solution to the problem,” Tottenham said in a statement.As a consequence, the left back will not be available for Tottenham’s upcoming Asia-Pacific pre-season tour, the club added, during which Spurs will face West Ham, Leicester City and Roma. Hospitalised Van der Sar out of immediate danger
AMSTERDAM, July 12: Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar remains in intensive care but is in a stable condition and out of immediate danger following his bleed on the brain last week, his wife Annemarie confirmed on Tuesday.Van der Sar was admitted to a Split hospital on Friday while on holiday in Croatia.“Edwin is still in the intensive care unit but is stable. He is not in life-threatening danger,” Annemarie was quoted as saying by Ajax Amsterdam, where Van der Sar was until recently a director. “Every time we get to visit him, he’s communicative. We have to wait patiently to see how his situation will develop.” (Agencies)
Oldest football player Miura set to play again in Portugal
TOKYO, July 12: The oldest professional soccer player has decided he’s not old enough to call it quits just yet.Striker Kazuyoshi Miura, who is 56, has signed a new loan deal in Portugal, the second-tier club Oliveirense posted on social media on Tuesday.Miura has been on loan from Japanese club Yokohama FC to Oliveirense since February and set the record for the Portuguese league’s oldest player when appearing in three games through the end of the season in May.As well as Japan, Miura has played in Brazil, Italy, Croatia and Australia. The former national team forward scored 55 goals in 89 games for Japan. (PTI)
FIFA lifts Zimbabwe ban
HARARE, July 12: Football’s global governing body FIFA has lifted a ban on Zimbabwe from participating in world tournaments, the country’s Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Kirsty Coventry said.Coventry described the end of the 18-month suspension as “exciting” and “incredible” at a press conference in Harare.FIFA lifted the ban on Monday, only two days before the draw for the African qualifiers for the next World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA.The ban was imposed more than a year ago after what FIFA viewed as government interference in the administration of the sport, state news agency New Ziana reported.The ban followed a government-sanctioned dissolution of an elected national football body, the ZIFA, an affiliate of FIFA. Wrestling trials on July 22 & 23 in New Delhi
NEW DELHI, July 12: The IOA ad-hoc committee on Wednesday decided to hold much-awaited wrestling trials for the Asian Games on July 22 and 23 but the panel is still undecided on criteria and if any of the six protesting wrestlers should be given exemption.After IOA’s request, seeking extension beyond July 22 was shot down by the OCA, the ad-hoc panel met in New Delhi and decided that men’s Greco Roman and Women’s trials will be held on July 22 and selection to pick free style team will be done the next day.Trials in 18 Olympic weight categories – six each in three formats have to be conducted by the ad-hoc committee.
