Shillong, July 26: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations in Ladakh, paying homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s defense.
Kargil Vijay Diwas Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually since 1999, commemorates the day when Pakistan Army regulars were driven out from strategic heights they had stealthily occupied after crossing the Line of Control (LoC).
As per IANS, the Defence Minister arrived in Drass and laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial, paying tribute to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War. The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, Air Chief Marshal V.R. Chaudhari, and Indian Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar also paid their respects by laying wreaths at the memorial.
Marking the occasion with families of the fallen during the event, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met with the families of the martyrs and presented each family with a memento and a shawl as a mark of respect.
Taking to Twitter, Rajnath Singh saluted the resolve and high morale of the country’s defense forces, acknowledging their unwavering dedication in safeguarding the nation’s integrity and sovereignty.
J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha also paid tribute on Twitter, praising the valor and sacrifices of the soldiers and expressing gratitude to the families of the Kargil War heroes.
Kargil Vijay Diwas serves as a poignant reminder of the indomitable spirit displayed by the soldiers during ‘Operation Vijay,’ leading to a triumphant conclusion for the Indian Armed Forces.
