Man found hurt in head next to pick-axe dies

NONGPOH, July 31: In a peculiar incident, a man died at Holy Cross Hospital, Umsaw, after a controversial episode ensued earlier in Pyllun Village, Umroi, on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as one Rafiqul Islam, was found by his father-in-law in an unconscious state in his room late evening with a grievous head injury. At the scene, a blood-stained pick-axe was found lying beside the victim’s head, adding to the gravity of the situation.
Subsequently, Islam was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. He was however declared brought dead to the hospital.
On being informed by the hospital, police conducted an initial inquiry into the matter. The police investigation revealed that Rafiqul Islam had been living in a single-room residence at Pyllun village along with a roommate.
Moreover, the police have identified a suspect believed to be connected to the incident.
A manhunt is under way to apprehend the accused and bring him to justice. The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed yet to avoid compromising the ongoing investigation.
