Shillong, August 16: Since its release on August 11, ‘Gadar 2’ has been on an impressive winning streak, amassing a gross earning of Rs 270.20 crore.

When considering its global collections, the film is nearly touching the Rs 300 crore mark. On August 15, it achieved its highest day-wise net earning of Rs 55.4 crore.

As per IANS, following closely in India is the Tamil blockbuster ‘Jailer,’ starring Rajinikanth. With a net collection of Rs 210.65 crore since its August 10 release, the movie is gaining ground rapidly. Thanks to Rajinikanth’s extensive overseas fan base, the film’s worldwide earnings are estimated at Rs 392.20 crore, surpassing ‘Gadar 2.’

In contrast, the critically acclaimed ‘OMG 2,’ led by Akshay Kumar, has achieved a worldwide collection of Rs 99.30 crore, making it the highest for an Akshay Kumar film in the last two years. However, it has yet to breach the Rs 100 crore mark, with India’s gross collection at Rs 85.3 crore (net: Rs 72.27 crore).

Chiranjeevi’s ‘Bhola Shankar’ trails behind with a worldwide figure of Rs 39 crore, with Indian theaters contributing Rs 33.4 crore (net: Rs 28.35 crore).

Analyzing the ‘Gadar 2’ phenomenon, trade analyst and Senior Vice President of Elara Capital, Karan Taurani, highlighted its significant impact in North India’s Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. The film has consistently achieved over 80 percent occupancy nationwide, with some areas like Delhi-NCR reaching an astounding 95.75 percent.

Despite its reported budget of Rs 75 crore, ‘Gadar 2’ is proving to be a massive success, generating substantial revenue. While Taurani anticipates a decline in footfalls after the Independence Day holiday, the trade remains optimistic about the film’s potential to join the Rs 500-crore club.

The trade is now pondering whether ‘Gadar 2’ can surpass the record set by its 2001 predecessor, ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,’ which earned Rs 111.73 crore (worldwide gross collection) at the time, facing competition from ‘Lagaan.’ It’s important to note that this figure is not inflation-adjusted, as per Bollywood Hungama.
