Beware of fake hotel booking sites; cops tell tourists

SHILLONG, Aug 18: Meghalaya DGP LR Bishnoi on Friday alerted tourists visiting the state that they should be extra vigilant about fake hotel booking websites that are solely meant to steal money and personal information.
The DGP said that one such website is ‘orchidlakeresort.in’ which appears to be a legitimate website but is actually a forgery with no affiliation with any hotels.
‘Double-check, triple check the URLs where you are submitting your identity records or paying money. Let’s fight these fraudsters together!’—a message from Meghalaya police to avoid falling victim to a counterfeit hotel booking scams’.
