Guwahati, Aug 22: Amidst an intensified drive against activities related to fake Indian currency notes (FICN), a team from the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police intercepted a vehicle and apprehended three FICN dealers in Goalpara district on Tuesday afternoon.
Official sources said the STF team carried out an operation based on a reliable source input provided by the chief of the STF-Assam, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, that a covert deal in fake Indian currency notes (FICN) would take place somewhere at Krishnai town in the western Assam district.
“Accordingly, the operation team from STF, Assam proceeded from Guwahati on Tuesday morning. At about 1 pm, the team intercepted a Maruti Alto, bearing registration number AS 18F 6863 at Krishnai town, and apprehended three FICN dealers who were identified as Md. Anowar Hussain (52), Md. Rafique Ahmed (47) and Md Krowel Marak (35),” an official said.
The apprehended FICN dealers hail from Krishnai.
During the search operation, 29 bundles of FICN of 500 denomination were recovered inside the vehicle.
“The fake India currency along with the vehicle and four mobile handsets have been recovered and seized from their possession. All the apprehended persons and seized items were handed over to the officer-in-charge, Krishnai police station for initiating necessary legal action,” the official said.
A case has been registered in this connection at Krishnai police station for carrying out further investigation.
Of late, the STF has intensified its crackdown on fake Indian currency notes (FICN). Last month, at least six dealers of FICN were apprehended from separate places by teams from the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police.
